Independent Schools

In addition to public schools, B.C. has more than 350 independent schools – providing families with even more educational choices. Currently, about 12 per cent of B.C. students in Grades K – 12 attend independent schools.

These schools fall into four different groups, depending on:

  • whether they receive provincial funding and
  • whether they meet provincial standards in areas such as curriculum and teacher certification.

The Federation of Independent School Association (FISA) represents 92% of Independent Schools in B.C.  For more information on FISA and all independent schools please visit the Independent School website.
