Professional Learning Opportunities

 The VSS promotes best practice in teaching and learning online, in alignment with the Ministry of Education's Standards for Distributed Learning in BC. BC educators have access to a wide variety of professional learning opportunities you can use to help design distributed learning environments; and to develop, deliver or manage distributed, online and blended learning experiences. You can access ongoing user support, training, and technical support for Elluminate Live!, provided to all BC schools free of charge. Elluminate Live! features live audio, video, text chat, and a whiteboard on which you can draw, show images and share snapshots of your computer screen. |

You have access to e-PD courses which guide teachers through a considered approach to infusing technology into their practice. There are four core courses and numerous elective courses to choose from.

You have access to 40 Teacher Essentials module libraries (elementary, middle and secondary) which are part of a series of self-paced “just enough – just in time” modules on specific topics and content areas that cover all facets of K-12 education.

Professional Learning Events
|

You can access online and blended professional learning events that give you a range of experiences through symposia, seminars, workshops facilitated asynchronous discussions, webcasts and online presentations. These events use a variety and technologies and delivery methods. Some of these events take place inside the VSS Professional Learning Community, others are available through other suppliers.

One-Credit Technology-Mediated Learning course offerings from Royal Roads University which are available to school districts at discount rates. These courses are eligible for advanced standing in the Learning and Technology Graduate Certificate program, or, credit as an elective in the Master of Arts Learning and Technology program. |
