Residency Requirements

If you are normally a BC resident but travelling out of the province, you can take distributed learning courses as long as your school considers your absence to be temporary.  Your school will need proof that you’re a resident and returning to BC, and may ask to see these documents from you or your family:

  • passport, citizenship card, birth certificate, or driver’s licence;
  • local utility, property ownership, or leasing information;
  • diplomatic or Armed Forces status;
  • work, study, or temporary residence permits or visas issued by other jurisdictions; and
  • letters of temporary employment or temporary relocation assignment, with length-of-term information.

BC distributed learning courses are usually available only to BC residents.  Sometimes, BC distributed learning schools make arrangements with other provinces or Canadian school boards to deliver courses to students living elsewhere in Canada.
